Open Writing Retreat (Fall 2021)
Having trouble getting started or focusing on a writing assignment that's due soon? Feeling isolated and unmotivated? This retreat might just be the difference you need.

The goals of a writing retreat are to help you make progress on a writing assignment, learn writing strategies that can help with productivity for future assignments, and just feel good about writing.

What happens at a retreat? Basically, everybody writes, with some useful and supportive structures. Here's what we'll do:

Welcome, introduction, ground rules;
Warm-up fun freewrite (NOT about the assignment!). This will make you feel positive and ready to write.
Individual goal-setting activity. It emphasizes focus and direction, so you know where you’re going.
2 x 20-minute writing sessions with a 5-minute break. Everyone writes. Yes, everyone: students, course instructors, writing instructors...
Concluding breakout groups, where we share the progress we’ve made and set out the next steps in our writing projects.

If we were retreating in a room together, Writing Support would offer snacks and tea. Since we’re retreating individually, please bring something delicious with you to the retreat.

Also, bring everything you need to write: ideas, outlines, drafts, reading notes, doodles, favourite mugs…

If you have questions, email Writing Support Coordinator Dr. Sarah King: sd.king@utoronto.ca
Meeting is over, you can not register now. If you have any questions, please contact Meeting host: Sarah King.
