nazgol
01:09:17
Would you please talk more about research catalogue?
Kauel Rajeshkumar Brahmbhatt
01:10:21
Can I apply for online work study positions if I am not going to travel to Canada for this term?
Jilna Manek
01:12:20
^
Wendy Szeto
01:12:31
@Sumhithaa - if you meet the eligibility criteria (ie. number of courses). Some postings might indicate that they are looking for undergrad, or even graduate students, so look carefully at the requirements
Sumhithaa Sriram
01:12:49
Thank you so much
Wendy Szeto
01:12:54
np!
Wendy Szeto
01:15:01
@Kauel - my suggestion is to connect with an advisor from the ISC. You'll need legal authorization to work in Canada (having your SIN card).
Jaszwini Kunalan
01:15:10
I'm not sure if this question was answered, but what is the difference between having a research position in the work study program and taking a research position within a co-op work term?
Jilna Manek
01:15:20
What about the no of hours expected for the work study positions?
Sumhithaa Sriram
01:15:46
If I am taking on a remote work study do I need an sin or a work permit ?
Wendy Szeto
01:16:28
@Jaszwini - both are paid experiences, just from different university programs
Kauel Rajeshkumar Brahmbhatt
01:16:43
Thanks, I will surely contact someone. Do we need the SIN card for volunteering posts as well?
Jaszwini Kunalan
01:16:46
Thank you!
Wendy Szeto
01:17:07
Work Study is with UofT jobs while Coop can be with external partners or who they have contracts with
nazgol
01:17:31
Can international students join NSERC?
Wendy Szeto
01:17:42
@Jilna - for Work Study, it's up to 15 hours a week (max)
Jilna Manek
01:18:24
Ok thank you
Wendy Szeto
01:18:45
@Sumhithaa - even with remote work, WS still requires SIN and permit
Wendy Szeto
01:19:09
@Kauel - for volunteering, you don't need a SIN
Sumhithaa Sriram
01:19:10
Ok thank you so much.
Wendy Szeto
01:19:15
there are several remote opportunities
Sumhithaa Sriram
01:19:25
Is there any way I can apply without a work permit?
Wendy Szeto
01:19:32
look at Spark Ontario (new collab with the ministry)
Wendy Szeto
01:19:42
but think about what kind of experience you're wanting from volunteering
Wendy Szeto
01:19:54
there's also Volunteer Toronto
Wendy Szeto
01:20:22
I also suggest looking at directories like 211 Toronto for an idea of what organizations exist within communities
Wendy Szeto
01:20:29
and visit their homepage or reach out directly
Wendy Szeto
01:21:14
@Sumhithaa - no because of taxation, you'll need to have legal authorization for sure
Sumhithaa Sriram
01:21:35
Ok thank you so much
Kauel Rajeshkumar Brahmbhatt
01:22:19
Thanks a lot, I will surely reach out to them
Wendy Szeto
01:22:38
Np!
Jilna Manek
01:23:29
So Incase I’m not in Canada n not eligible for a work study position bec I don’t hv sin for taxation, what r other opportunities do I have ?
Wendy Szeto
01:24:19
@Nazgol - To be eligible for support from the majority of NSERC’s Scholarships and Fellowships programs (except for Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships and Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships), you must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or a protected person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada), as of the deadline date for application. NSERC may ask for proof of citizenship, residency or protected person status before and while providing funding.
Danielle Nanquil
01:24:29
